This project is based on interview and workshop with people in Kannelmäki Helsinki, Finland. And interestingly, their definition of neighborhood was very distinctive, which is “Nature” rather than a human relationship. From my observation, Nature could be a proper media to bind people to each other.
I chose sound from nature which is easily spread out and shared freely. with this nature sound, I tried to connect the natural area, Mätäjoki, to urban surround- ing, Kannelmäki railway station. I recorded natural sounds, bird singing and played them in Railway station from designed object, the Cone. The natural sounds in urban surrounding surprised and delighted people, who were waiting for their train to Helsinki. This work had been exhibited in Milan, and design museum in Helsinki in 2013.
